Explain Everything
Explain Everything is at the centre of apps I use. If you want to app smash then EE is a necessity.
Explain Everything is probably the app I have noticed have the most impact on the outcome of student progress for maths. I like to think of it as a 4D approach, it hits all the senses - draw, images, video, record voice, text, handwrite. In a maths book, you only hit half of those tools.
I have found that by having to actually record your voice and explain your thinking, it really helps solidify concepts and understandings. It makes students slow down and actually think about the steps they took to get to an answer.
These videos are a basic way you can use EE and yet it is so powerful still. Her understanding and ability to clearly breakdown her thoughts has improved just in the short time she has been using the app. She Explains how to solve a problem using tidy numbers and a doubling and halving strategy. She is a year 7 and has only been at Te Kura a term and had never used the app.
