Building Question Askers not Question Answerers

I have been reflecting on my own questioning techniques and how effective they are in my teaching.
This is a really interesting clip and resonated with my own views and beliefs.

This Video is about how we have been creating question answerers but when in actual fact we need students to become question askers.  It challenged me to think about my body language and classroom environment and situations that happen following students that ask questions both relevant and non-relevant to the lesson planned.  How do I facilitate the student's needs when they are questioning and what I can do to make changes in the classroom?  He talked about using a Question Waka that incorporates 5 levels of questioning and how it can encourage students to assess their own level of questioning. From this video I have thought about using this somehow and could possibly have a questioning box, and have it function in a way that students can develop a question and put this is the box. A question could be pulled from the box possibly weekly and allow discussion surrounding the quality of the question - does it have the right vocab, do we understand what the question is asking us, how can we find the information, can we develop or create any further questions and lastly research in order to answer.  Once answered - Do we need to ask more, what else would we like to know?
This will provide opportunities for discussions. I hope to encourage ideas and opinions, engagement in discussions and ownership over questioning.
