Creative ways to use Digital Technology to Support Writing.

The Literacy Shed, Pic Collage and Movie Making.

Creative lessons

I had reluctant writers and their stories were lacking the rich vocab that I could hear in class verbal discussions and brainstorms. This rich language was not being transferred to paper when writing the story.

I thought about a way I could use technology to overcome the barriers that might be stopping this transfer of language happening.

So I used the clips from Literacy Shed as starters for writing. We watched the clips together. The students then recorded their voice first before writing their story and then recorded their final story using iMovie where they narrated over the original clip. This was highly successful - engaging and great for getting the rich vocab I had been wanting to draw out in their stories.

What did I want from these lessons?

- Make it interesting for the students and fun.
- Get them thinking outside the square, be creative.
- Draw out the rich vocab that students use in discussions verbally but then do not transfer this language to paper when they write.
- New tech skills and ways to present a story
- Practise oral language skills.

These are Year 3 & 4 Students' final stories using Literacy Shed and iMovie.
