Reflection - How does e-learning make a difference to ākonga Māori?

How does e-learning make a difference to ākonga Māori?

I offer flexibility with my approach to the competition of Te Kura Online modules. I always explain to my students and offer the opportunity to do a module online but they may present it however they like. It is important we cater to this as many of our students are already digitally clued up and need to be extended and given opportunities to explore this area further. It also helps breaks down some of the barriers that learning on paper and distance learning brings.

They might choose to present work using Google Docs, Slides, iMovie, Book Creator, Pic Collage, an A3 poster, whatever they choose.

The lessons I create are cross-curricular. In my Google Class lessons, I have created weekly lessons where students are required to explore, create and present work through a range of different media, but the core content of the lesson is linked to other areas of the curriculum.

I use lessons to purposefully teach different ways to digitally present work and provide them opportunities to learn and build on a variety of digital skills that are creative, 21st century and promote digital problem-solving.

We discuss learning and questions about visual design as they arise, so it is natural and relevant to the learner. Not an abstract or foreign concept plucked from thin air.
