Creating Rich Tasks to promote thinking that is open to more than one answer. 

This is a rich task we were shown on our NZ Maths leaders course. It was very cool to watch the discussion and thinking that this task generated.
The instructions were to draw a building. I only gave the piece of paper and I had cut them into all random sizes. They could choose how many windows, doors, etc and where to glue it on the road. 

The idea comes from the What if, How many...concept to promote problem-solving, thinking and questioning. 


These were the questions the class came up with together and then had to find the answers to these and show their thinking. 


We need to make sure we are giving a range of number problems where the missing addend changes. This is a nice and simple table that I have often shared with teachers and can be found on the NZ maths website. 

I was sick of activities that were independent where the students weren't challenged enough. I made this. I got the idea off Pinterest but U just changed it to my levels as the one on Pinterest had fewer questions and was Stage 1-2 and didn't use a range of vocab. You can change the number at the top easily and making it reusable for a long as you want to use it.
